Everybody has a garlic bread recipe. This one leans a little spicy thanks to the cayenne and has just enough lemon to keep the butter from becoming too rich.
It's one of those recipes that disappears ridiculously fast. It goes especially well with chili, pasta, BBQ, or pretty much anything that benefits from warm bread and garlic butter.
Ingredients
- 1 baguette
- 1/4 lb butter
- 2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 4 cloves garlic
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Juice of half a lemon
Method
Place the butter in a small pan and melt over medium heat.
Mince the garlic using a garlic press and add it to the butter along with the cayenne pepper and salt.
Cook until the butter becomes frothy, then stir in the lemon juice.
Remove from the heat and allow the garlic butter to cool slightly.
Slice the baguette lengthwise and spread the butter mixture evenly on both sides. Put the loaf back together and wrap tightly in aluminum foil.
Bake at 350°F for 20 minutes.
Open the foil, spread the bread open and return to the oven for another 3–5 minutes until crisp and lightly browned.
Slice and serve immediately.
Hint: The garlic butter can be made ahead and kept in the refrigerator. This is especially good alongside the Super Bowl Chili.
